Ace of Cups: Enjoying Myself

I sat down for my delicious cup of Dandy Blend and when I saw my cup sitting on my cheesy homemade paisley (covered with paisley duct tape!) coaster and the charming vintage butterfly cup I decided to take a photo. I do love taking photos of things, even though I really need a much nicer camera. That may be one of the gifts I give to myself this year if I can afford it, or hint to enough people to gift one for my birthday.

After Prince Lenormand mentioned liking my photo yesterday I was thinking that even though I don't seem to be into painting or drawing very much right now, I am still into photography. I'm very much an amateur photographer but I do enjoy it very much. I thought it might be fun to do a photographic tarot or lenormand deck, something based on ordinary objects in my house that I love. My mind flashed through all the objects in my house and how I could use them in the deck. This may be one of those things that I put on my 2013 calender/workbook!

Well, I hope you all have an enjoyable day, as was my intention when I woke up. I find myself stymied by my own fears and self-imposed and limitations, but I have the power to change my focus. I just need to keep working on it, and focusing on love and creativity, Ace of Cups style.

Love,
MM

p.s. If I was actually making this for a deck I would've wiped the bit of sloshed Dandy Blend off the edge so it looked cleaner. Hehee.

  1. Ooh, that looks positively frothy - yum!

I'd love to see you do a photographic Lenormand, what fun. Or a tarot, as you say, this kind of image would be a great start! In any case, just feeling creative and excited is a good place to be :)

    1. Haha. Thanks, Chloƫ!

Yes, I love Dandy Blend, and it's also liver supporting and has some trace minerals and vitamins. Good stuff! And no caffeine, but provides a mellow lift.

Thanks for your kind input. I am thinking of it. As PLN stated, maybe starting with a smaller project would be good.

  2. Another great photo.

You know, a new camera is a great thing, but often it is the 'eye for a photo' that is a better gift than the equipment. And you have that already.

I think you'd make a wonderful deck and I think you'd get a lot from making a personal set. Since it is something I am doing myself and have done on a few occasions, I have a few tips. My first real set made was The Dark Beach Oracle. It was a great one for me to start with because it didn't have a set amount of cards. Therefore, I could just create as many as I wanted. There was no pressure to finish 32 or 78 or whatever. I often lose interest in things and then feel regret and bad for not finishing. Also, you have complete freedom to add and take out cards along the way.

I like to draw and paint, but photography often works well with my way of creating. It is instant, but can be jigged about with. I think this works well for me. You manipulate photos beautifully on your blog, so I don't doubt you could create something wonderful.

My other tip would be to just enjoy it and take it as it comes. When the pressure and perfectionism pile on, it becomes a chore. But when you have something in your hands at the end, like the Fragments deck I am now using, there is such a great feeling. It is indeed a part of yourself and cannot be rivaled by any shop-bought set, I think.

    1. Great tips! Thanks a bunch. I definitely agree that this is why I abandoned my first project (Token Tarot). Of course the main reason for that was because I got sick of the hand-painted jewelry. I would like to finish it someday but not sure when.

I think you've really hit the nail on the head with the creative process and how we can destroy it with our preconceptions and perfectionism. It's a really insidious thing! Oy! Thank you and I will definitely keep your ideas in mind when I think of starting a project.

  3. What a great photo. And love the homemade coaster and the butterfly cup. Wish I could reach in and pull it out. Have never heard of Dandy Blend but will check it out right now.

I also think you would make a great deck. One picture at a time ... no pressure to yourself. Just keep the idea in your mind. The photos will present themselves.

    1. Thank you, Carol! I appreciate the goodness and feedback. :)

Yes, I do think I will do this! I haven't decided exactly what yet, but I want to try it. I am going to try not to psych myself out.

      Much Love,

    2. How do you make the Dandy Blend look like that??? As you know, I have never heard of it but doing some research decided to order some. Will have it in a few days. What is the best way to prrepare it? Am thinking about adding some almond milk maybe?? Yours looks so whipped. :)))

    3. Haha--well, the Dandy Blend is sort of naturally foamy/frothy. I like having it with a little cream or soy craem or almond milk. It's best, I think, with some sort of milk or milk substitute and maybe a touch of honey. It depends on how you like your drinks. I like mine not too sweet and slightly creamy.

I've heated almond milk then added the Dandy Blend to it, plus a small amount of honey or stevia. I hope you enjoy it. It has health benefits (liver cleaning, trace minerals, vitamins)and is caffeine-free, but when you look at the bag it says it may give you a bit of a lift so to be careful if having it before bed. The lift it gives is much more subtle than coffee.

      Have a great day,
      MM
